Why We Love It:
A more recent provider on the scene, Xfinity Mobile is a network that operates over Verizon’s infrastructure and is available to Comcast subscribers as a way to bundle services and save money. To further the bundling, you might have noticed the significant discounts for people who are getting together in groups (up to 10 in the case of Xfinity Mobile) and getting many lines under the same bill or name.
More recently, Xfinity Mobile began offering 5G services (though deprioritized) to its subscribers through Verizon’s networks on top of the standard 4G LTE access. While the number of devices this affects is relatively low now, we do expect offerings to expand in the future as more devices are 5G enabled and as 5G becomes the norm. This will, however, depend partially on the actions and priorities of Verizon.
Xfinity Mobile started operations in 2017 and is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), which effectively means that it uses the infrastructure of a major carrier, as stated before. The tradeoff of MVNOs is that while they are usually cheaper, they might not get the priority of data service that one would get from the major operator. For many, however, the tradeoff is worth it, and Xfinity Mobile remains a great choice for those who do not plan on using their phones often or need a lower price. They have about 3.1 million total subscribers as of this writing, and they can only be expected to grow as time goes on.
